The Pandemic Changed Our Viewing Habits

There once was a time when we would tune in weekly or daily to our favorite TV shows and wait patiently for a series to unfold over a season. Then, two events coincided to change the public’s viewing habits, and it’s hard to go back to something once you’ve discovered a better of experiencing it. The pandemic and streaming services buying up complete series seemed to arrive almost simultaneously, and I couldn’t be more thankful. These shows arrived at the perfect time, as lockdowns and quarantines made the TV a lifeline that preserved our sanity.

We only realize that our viewing habits have changed since the end of the pandemic as TV production companies go back to their old way of producing series. We’re forced to return to the old way of watching and waiting for our shows to unfold at the TV studio’s pace instead of our own.

I’ve discovered a way to relieve the frustration of waiting while expanding my viewing. It simply entails watching shows that previously didn’t interest me. A show that was popular when it was airing ‘live’ but didn’t interest me at the time can be a great viewing experience now. These shows were popular for good reasons. They have great characters, writing, and direction. A show you had no interest in when it first came out can suck you into the plot and characters and make you wonder how you missed this gem.

The best part of watching these shows is you can binge-watch them like back in the days of the pandemic. Many of these popular shows ran for several seasons, so you have a few days of viewing to plan for whenever you get bored. It certainly makes waiting for your favorite show to air a little more bearable.
