Yippee — you’ve found time to go on vacation! That is usually the most challenging part; with the second being choosing where to stay. If a beach getaway in Phuket is atop your wish list, this brief article is going to help you choose amongst the many Mai Khao beach hotels available in the upper northwest coast of the island. We highly recommend this particular stretch of beach as this glorious 11-km-long stretch of sand is still unbelievably undeveloped as it’s part of the Sirinat National Park zone. The only significant landmark in the area is the Phuket International Airport near Nai Yang Beach.
So, how exactly do you select a resort that will suit all your needs? Well, every beach hotel is created differently, and therefore, you need to identify the perfect one as per your requirements. Here are some points to consider when selecting the perfect one:
First and foremost, what style of room do you want and can afford. Do you want a standard room, a suite, a garden or ocean view, pool access room, plunge pool villa, family suite and so forth? If the price difference between a garden and ocean view room is not that much different, we highly recommend you splurge on the latter as sitting in the late afternoon watching the sun dip into the sea and sleeping to the sound of the waves is unbeatable. Obviously, if you are travelling with children, especially young ones, a spacious suite or at least connecting rooms will be a must.
The next crucial thing to think about is whether the hotel has excellent amenities and services on offer. Of course, you’ll need free Wi-Fi throughout, but what about an all-day dining restaurant, a full-service bar, a kids’ room, fitness centre, spa, on-site activities (morning yoga, Muay Thai camp, cooking classes, snorkelling tour, etc.) and so forth?
For those of you who want to get out ‘n’ about a bit, does the resort offer a complimentary tuk-tuk service to nearby sites? And what about a tour booking service? And last, but not least, where exactly is the hotel located? As many Mai Khao beach hotels are very remote and don’t have any nearby amenities — shops, eateries, supermarkets, pharmacies, 7/11 stores — you’ll want to take that into consideration too.
