Rent a Floating Room on the River Kwai

Rent a Room on the River Kwai

For a different getaway than the same old beach hotel, why not try an exotic getaway to a floating bamboo accommodation on the world-famous River Kwai?

The River Kwai will always be Thailand’s most famous river, thanks to Alec Guinness and the 1957 movie ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’. But the river is far more interesting these days as a weekend getaway destination from nearby Bangkok.

The river slowly winds its way through the lush and beautiful Kanchanaburi province, and there are many attractions on the river that are perfect for an active, but peaceful getaway. Bamboo accommodations line the banks of the river. These spacious rooms feature a large porch open to the river with a hammock that’s perfect for lazing in and watching the river traffic go by.

There are also stand-up paddleboards and canoes that can be rented to explore the river area. Rent a bamboo raft if you’d rather take it easy while seeing the sights. You can lay back under your bamboo shade while the raft is driven along the scenic river.

There are also the ubiquitous long-tail boats that can be hired for a quicker tour of the river. Of course, you can always simply put on a life jacket, jump in the river and let the current be your guide as you drift along and take in the sights.

Kanchanaburi is an area that’s home to the Mon culture, and at night the company that manages the accommodations presents authentic Mon dances accompanied by a live Mon orchestra.

For an alternative to Hua Hin or Pattaya, why not be adventurous on your next getaway and experience the famous and historic River Kwai by booking a floating bamboo room on this peaceful river.
